Specialist underwater electric drives.

Trident builds submersible electric motors for the most demanding underwater applications. Cutter suction dredgers. Trailing suction hoppers. Deep sea sand mining. Offshore retrofit projects.

Every motor is engineered to operate continuously under seawater, pressure and full industrial duty. Hermetically sealed, oil- or air-filled construction. 316L stainless steel where it matters. Class H insulation. Multi-stage shaft protection. Pressure balancing for deep sea service.

We do not build commodity motors, and we do not build luxury motors. We build heavy-duty drives priced for operators who run them hard, and engineered so they keep running.

04 / Construction

Engineered without compromise.

Submersible service is unforgiving. Sealing failures cost vessels their day rate. Insulation failures cost weeks of downtime. Every detail of the TKBS construction is sized for that reality.

/01
Multi-stage shaft sealing
Mechanical seal as primary stage, oil seal as secondary, sealed by fluoroelastomer rings. Engineered for long-duration submerged storage.
/02
316L stainless welded shell
Corrosion-resistant welded outer construction. All bolts and fasteners in 316L stainless. Built for continuous seawater contact.
/03
Pressure balancing for deep sea
Automatic pressure balancing devices equalise internal and external pressure for deep sea sand mining at depths to 300 metres.
/04
Five-zone protection sensing
Overheat, motor chamber moisture, oil chamber moisture, cable chamber moisture and bearing temperature, each routed to the switchgear protector.
/05
VFD-compatible windings
Designed with full consideration of inverter harmonics and frequency variation. Suitable for soft start, full inverter control or diesel-direct drive.

Frequently asked questions

What power range do Trident submersible motors cover?
Trident TKBS submersible motors cover 100 kW to 7000 kW, with 34 standard ratings and project-engineered designs at the top of the range.
What voltage and pole configurations are available?
Voltages from 380 V up to 6000 V, with 4-pole up to 24-pole windings for low-speed, high-torque dredge and pump duty.
What operating depth do the motors reach?
Type I motors to 35 m and pressure-balanced Type II motors to 300 m operating depth.
Is there a warranty on Trident submersible motors?
Yes. Trident submersible motors carry a standard 12-month (1-year) warranty.
Can Trident replace an obsolete submersible motor from another brand?
Yes. From a nameplate photograph we reverse-engineer a form-fit TKBS replacement with matching mounting, shaft and terminal dimensions, engineered in Dordrecht, the Netherlands.
Can Trident build a motor exactly to our specification?
Yes. Trident builds motors one to one from a drawing, datasheet or nameplate: form, fit and function. The design is made around your existing installation, so foundation, shaft coupling and connection dimensions stay exactly as they are.
Which soils and media can the motors handle?
TKBS motors run in salt, brackish and contaminated water and in nearly all chemical soil compositions. Materials and seals are selected per project, for dredging, deep sea sand mining and mining duties such as slurry transport and mine dewatering.
How does the order and approval process work?
In six stages: offer, order and kick-off, engineering, customer approval, manufacturing and testing, final release. The technical package with performance data, dimensional drawing and interface dimensions is submitted for your written approval, and manufacturing starts only after that approval.
What is the lead time for a build-to-spec motor?
Typical lead time is 12 to 16 weeks, build to spec. The committed delivery time is stated in the commercial offer, and the date of your written design approval starts the production clock. Motors are preferably delivered with cables pre-mounted and factory-tested.
06 / Engineering inquiry

Send your nameplate.
We engineer the replacement.

Most replacement projects start with a photograph of a nameplate and a phone call. Send us your existing motor data, the application and the constraints, we respond with a technical proposal, drawings and a delivery commitment.
