Offshore vessels run obsolete submersible motors. Original manufacturers exit the market, type plates fade, spare parts become impossible to source, and the motor still needs to turn next week. Trident builds form-fit replacements, VFD modernisations and bespoke offshore drives from a nameplate brief.
The original motor manufacturer has exited the market, been acquired, or simply stopped supporting an old generation. Trident reverse-engineers from the nameplate, the outline drawing and the duty, and delivers a TKBS configuration with matching mounting interfaces, shaft dimensions and terminal layout.
Trident also supplies motors for mining projects, from slurry pumps to mine dewatering, with materials selected for chemically aggressive media.
An older fixed-speed motor is rewound and upgraded to a VFD-rated insulation system, with the protector configuration updated for inverter operation. Often combined with a soft-start or full inverter retrofit on the vessel side for fuel-efficiency gains.
The application has outgrown the original motor, heavier dredge head, deeper duty, higher slurry density. Trident engineers a TKBS configuration with higher power in the same mounting envelope, where physically achievable, with revised cooling and protection.
The motor is unrepairable, the vessel is in port and the day rate is bleeding. Where stock allows, Trident delivers from existing inventory; where build is required, we accelerate the schedule and ship by air freight if needed.
For fleet operators, Trident builds and stores designated spare motors against the vessel specification. Configured to be available at short notice when a primary unit fails, avoiding the lead-time exposure of a one-off build.
A retrofit project starts with whatever data you have. A nameplate photograph is enough. From there, Trident engineers the configuration backwards.
Power, voltage, current, frequency, speed, insulation class, IP rating, frame size. Whatever the original manufacturer stamped, we capture. Faded plates are reconstructed from the vessel build records where needed.
Mounting bolt pattern, shaft diameter and key, terminal box position, cooling water connections. Either from the existing motor on the vessel or from the original outline drawing.
Select the TKBS rating and configuration that matches the original duty. Modernise insulation, sealing, protection and VFD compatibility where applicable. Issue a technical proposal with as-built target drawings.
A photograph of the existing motor plate is enough to begin. Trident engineering responds with a TKBS retrofit configuration and a delivery commitment.
